About time!

Hola amigos! (That’s hello for you non-spanish speakers) However, I’m sure you picked up on what that meant while you were babysitting some kids and and listening to Dora the Explorer in the background. Nevertheless, welcome to my new blog page! It’s been a while since I first contemplated starting a blog and I thought, hey it’s a new year (well 4 months into it) and it’s time to start making things happen. So here I am spending hours in coffee shops customizing my blog, adding and deleting widgets, and trying to figure out how all of this works. Truth is, I just love to write. So this may not be your typical perfectly aligned blog with the best themes and thousands of followers but it will have relevant content, captivating photos, and maybe a few too many drunken sappy posts on how much I love the place where this blog is all about….Spain.

Let’s step back ten years. I am a 13 year old girl sitting in the corner of my neighborhood library hoarding all the travel books. I pick up one about Spain and it draws me in so much that I don’t hear the librarian announce closing time and I’m left in the dark. (Only for a few seconds, scared you though didn’t I) I run home with my four books about the country and I spend hours researching, listening to flamenco guitar, and begging my mom to make me a tortilla española . Fast forward to 2010 when I visit Spain for my high school Spanish trip. I visited Madrid, Segovia, Sevilla, Granada, Córdoba, and Toledo. I admired hundreds of years of art in the many museums of Madrid, ate cochinillo in Segovia, and admired Moorish palaces in Andalucía. But it was really in Toledo where I had a sort of epiphany.  If you Google Toledo, Spain, you get this iconic picture of the cathedral on your right, the historic old city on your left, and the river Tajo below. I was there, on the hillside looking at that same scene breathing in the springtime air. As I closed my eyes, a man came up behind me and started playing the Spanish guitar and I realized at that moment that I was meant to live in that country. That is why I am going back and hopefully making a living over there. Whether it’s this blog that will keep me there or in a simmilar way that Sandra Bullock was able to stay in the U.S. in the movie “The Proposal” (Just kidding mom….) It’s going to happen. After all, a gypsy read my palm and told me I’d come back so it has to be true…..right? So with this blog be prepared to marvel at my food porn (which will be really really good because Spain has some of the best food in the world and even Mario Batalli says so), get some helpful advice on where to travel and stay in Spain, how to take the unbeaten path a little and get insider tips on the best places to eat and go out, and most of all just have fun! Mishaps and trouble will probably happen, but hey, that’s what I’m here for. Learn from me and get your passport ready. You’ll want to come too!
